Chemsketch

What is CHEMSKETCH?

It is amazing that ChemSketch is freeware because it is a quite powerful chemical structure drawing program. One of its few drawbacks is that it is somewhat complicated to learn. However, if you have any experience with drawing programs then some aspects of it should be easier for you to learn.

use this link for further help in using CHEMSKETCH.

Title barShows the name of the program
and the name of the currently open file
Menu bar
Contains a series of words.
Each word links to a list (‘menu’) of related commands
for working in the ChemSketch window in Structure mode
ChemBasic toolbar
Optional and contains Goodies
or other ChemBasic applications
Color Palette
Allows you to quickly color atoms
and bonds in the selected chemical structures

We may produce many chemical structure from this software. For instance:

Energy of Reaction Diagram

Different kinds of the Orbitals

Vacuum Distillation Apparatus

Two-chain DNA Strands

Lipids and Micelles

PDB & Rasmol

Today, we learned about Protein Data Bank, or in its short form, we call it as PDB. The Protein Data Bank is a repository for the 3-D structural data of large biological molecules, such as proteins and nucleic acis. Typically, the data are obtained by X-ray crystallography or NMR spectroscopy and submittted by biochemists and biologist from around the world. Besides, they are freely accessible on the Internet via the websites of its member organisations, for instance, PDBe, PDBj and RCSB. In addition, PDB is a key resource in areas of structural biology, such as structural genomics. For most major scientific journals, and some funding agencies, such as the NIH in the USA, now need scientists to submit their data to the PDB.

After learning about PDB, we are asked to do some assignment about this topic. In this assignment, we need to collect the information of the molecular gained from the website: http://www.pdb.org/pdb/home/home.do

Apart from that, we have to edit some of the molecular, such as Collagenase, Subtilisin, Kexin and Signal Peptidase. Therefore, below is the information about each of them.
